An article in the August 22 edition of the Boston Globe Magazine sheds light lingering safety cocerns at Entergy’s Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth.

The article covers safety and security concerns, as well as decades of violations and unplanned shutdowns that have led to Pilgrim being ranked one step away from federally mandated shutdown by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. It is a must read for anyone living in the shadow of the 45 year old plant.

As the author points out, Pilgrim’s problems are raising questions about what will happen after it closes in 2019, especialy given that nuclear waste will be left behind on the site, only about 150 feet away from the Cape Cod Bay shoreline for the indefinite future.
