NRG’s Canal Electric Generating Station in Sandwich is in the midst of a
modernization project that will add a 1.5-MW solar array and new 350-MW combustion turbine to its two aging boilers, which are largely fueled by oil.
In terms of air emissions, Canal Station’s new unit will rely on fracked gas and could result in methane leaks during the fracking and transportation process.
On Wednesday, February 8th at 7:00 pm at Sandwich Town Hall, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) will hold a public hearing addressing air emissions from the new gas-fired unit, which will cast a large carbon shadow for decades.
You can submit comments orally or in writing at the hearing, or you can submit written comments electronically to email@example.com.
