Today, December 27, a letter signed by more than 10 groups from Boston to the Cape was sent to Governor Baker – including JRWA and its Cape Cod Bay Watch program. The letter highlights the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) email that was mistakenly sent to a Cape Cod activist earlier this month. The NRC email contained a candid description of the NRC’s most recent inspection of Pilgrim, including non-compliances, poor maintenance, poor engineering practices, equipment reliability problems, and an overwhelmed staff.
The groups’ letter describes “systemic corporate safety culture problems” inside Pilgrim and asks for strong leadership and action from the Governor’s office. It goes on to petition the Governor and others to insist that the NRC to shut down Pilgrim immediately and begin decommissioning.
